Brown sugar
Brown sugar is a type of sugar that is often used in baking and cooking. It is essentially white sugar with molasses added to it. The molasses gives brown sugar its characteristic color and a slightly different flavor compared to white sugar. Brown sugar contains small amounts of minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium due to its molasses content, though these levels are not significant enough to provide substantial nutritional benefits. The molasses in brown sugar also contributes antioxidants, which help neutralize free radicals in the body.
